Care

How can I best take care of my Azul Rug?

Taking care and maintaining a hand-knotted Moroccan rug requires extra attention, due to the unique craftsmanship and materials used in the manufacturing process.

1. We recommend vacuuming your carpet at least once a week, depending on how busy your home is. Use a vacuum cleaner without a rotating brush to avoid loosening fibers.

2. For common stains such as coffee, wine and tea, it is best to take action immediately. Gently dab the stain with a clean, damp cloth, avoiding harsh rubbing. If water is not enough, use a professional stain remover such as Vlekkenbaas or James Vlekkenwonder (specially for coffee, wine and tea stains).

3. To repel moths, it is best to regularly vacuum both sides of the rug and ensure good ventilation in the room where the rug is located.

4. To remove walking marks from your pet, gently brush the affected area with a soft brush.

5. Always use a mild soap solution or a special carpet cleaning agent for stains such as Vlekkenbaas.

6. For musty odors we recommend professional cleaning. At home you can try to air the rug outside on a dry, sunny day, but do not wet it with a garden hose, for example. It is often difficult to get it completely dry again.

7. To keep your rug beautiful for a long time, we recommend that you rotate it regularly so that it wears evenly and is not exposed to too much sunlight.

8. Have the carpet professionally cleaned every 12-24 months.

Do you have a recommended third-party for professional cleaning?

We recommend Cinco cleaning for professional cleaning of your Azul Rug.

Cinco cleaning is a family business that has been cleaning carpets since 1989. They can rightly say that they are experts in the field of carpet cleaning. For thorough cleaning they use biodegradable cleaning agents, which are also safe for the health of small children and animals. To make the process as easy as possible for the customer, the rugs are picked up from and returned to your home free of charge.

Is a non-slip underlay necessary for my Azul Rugs rug?

We do recommend it. A non-slip underlay extends the life of your carpet. The underlay keeps the fibers of your rug closer together. This allows the rug to retain its shape for longer.

Taxes & Import Duties

What are the VAT, customs duties, and import taxes for orders within the EU?

Within the EU, VAT is already included in the price of the rug. There are no additional customs duties or import taxes applicable.

What should I know about VAT, customs duties, and import taxes for orders outside the EU?

For orders outside the EU, no VAT will be charged, but local taxes may apply upon import. Rugs are shipped on a DDU (Delivery Duty Unpaid) basis, meaning that import duties and taxes are not included in the total purchase price of your order. Any additional costs for import taxes and customs duties are the customer’s responsibility and will be invoiced by our shipping partners, such as FedEx or DHL.

Sustainability

How durable is an Azul Rug?

Our rugs are handmade from 100% high-quality new wool and dyed with natural raw materials. The durability of a rug doesn't have to do with the amount of traffic it endures, but rather how often you clean it. Dirt that accumulates in a rug can shred the fibers, which causes the rug to degenerate over time. With regular cleaning, Azul Rugs can (and do) last for generations.

How do I best clean my Azul Rug?

The easiest (and most traditional) way to do clean your rug is to take your rug outside and shake it out at least once a week. If this is impractical, you can clean the rug on a weekly basis with a canister vacuum side to side (not end-to-end) with the beater bar on the highest setting. This can be just as if not more effective than shaking out a rug. Combining these techniques on a routine basis is ideal.

If you need to spot clean your rug, do so with warm water and just a little detergent. Wool naturally repels liquids at first contact so treat it quickly with a dry cloth and follow up with water and detergent and you should be fine.

After a few years (or more serious soiling), we recommend having your rug professionally cleaned. Look for a quality professional cleaner in your part of the world to help reinvigorate your Azul Rug.
